 It was Friday night in late November in our lounge room. My daughter and I were watching ‘So you think you can dance’.

She hung suspended from her hoist, dancing along with the contestants.

The dog was asleep on the floor.

My husband was on his way home from a day visiting his brother Chris, who lives up the coast.

And I was sprawled on the couch in my usual Friday night functional-coma, the kind of tiredness that only comes from being awake five times a night for eight years.

All was as it should be.
